According to Megumi Kaji, of POLA Chemical Industries, do-it-yourself (DIY) cosmetics are increasingly popular but still uncommon. This is due, in part, to the need for a technology that allows for the easy preparation of emulsions.
To address this issue, POLA researchers developed an emulsifier, the M-polymer, that is compatible with various oils and humectants and supports the creation of emulsions without temperature management. During the IFSCC 2020 Congress, Kaji presented work showing the ingredient to be compatible with a wide range of oils and humectants. It also emulsified quickly and the oil droplets in the emulsion were stable for 3 months at 5-50°C.
