In the beauty industry (and many others), sustainability is a major market force. It has evolved beyond a "nice to have" into an expectation, and it drives consumer purchasing.

Sustainability Drives Beauty Purchasing

Bain and Company reported, in November 2023, that of some 23,000 global survey respondents, 50% said sustainability is one of their top four key purchase criteria when shopping. In addition, per the same source, 64% reported "high levels of concern about sustainability," which is still growing.

Sustainability Fosters the Conscious Consumer

2Stallions described sustainability as a previous niche concern that is now in the mainstream, giving rise to the emergence of the conscious consumer. "These individuals desire products and services that meet their needs and are deeply committed to sustainability and ethical practices. Their purchasing decisions are no longer solely based on price and convenience but also on businesses’ impact on the environment, society and future generations."

Indeed, their concerns extend beyond price and convenience to an array of concerns including safety for the environment and self; recyclable, refillable or zero waste packaging; low or no carbon emissions; ethical and social considerations; and more recently, over-consumption and waste.

To meet these diverse conscious consumer expectations, formulators will require new tools. A new webcast, sponsored by Kalichem, will present three.

Now available on demand, the webcast, "Meet Kalichem’s Eco-friendly Unicorns: 100% Green Quat, 'Aluminum-salts-free' Deo Active and Water-saving, Upcycled Surfactant," will highlight three of the company's unique, safe and eco-friendly offerings for cosmetics and personal care product development.

These include the following.

  • A 100% green quat: Kerashaft Alab,
  • An “aluminum salts-free” mineral active for deodorants: DeoHap Dry, and
  • A water-saving surfactant upcycled from olive oil, capable of loading high oil content into the water phase: The Olivoil range.
