Rahn AG's Scalpinist-Senso (INCI: Propanediol (and) Bioflavonoids) is an active ingredient designed to holistically alleviate the discomfort of sensitive and oily scalp after two weeks of use. Per the company, the ingredient additionally restores balance to the disturbed scalp microbiome and reduces sebum from a simple rinse-off application.

Bioflavonoids and Anti-inflammation Action

Scalpinist-Senso is based on an extract derived from Maclura cochinchinensis leaves that is rich in prenylated bioflavonoids. According to Rahn AG, the ingredient demonstrates anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting pro-inflammatory enzymes COX-1, COX-2 and 5-LOX. This provides the improved scalp comfort benefits shown in clinical studies.

Decreasing Sebum, Restoring Scalp Microbiome

In relation, as Rahn AG explains, individuals with sensitive scalp experience discomfort, irritation and itch in response to stressors that would not typically trigger these reactions. Excessive oiliness has also been connected to sensitive scalp conditions, as sebaceous glands increase sebum production in response to stress. An overly oily scalp also contributes to disruptions in the microbiome, namely Cutibacterium acnes overgrowth.

By reducing inflammation, Scalpinist-Senso has been shown clinically to significantly reduce scalp sebum and slow re-greasing of the scalp after washing with rinse-off test products. It also has been shown in vitro to inhibit C. acnes.

Taken together, Scalpinist-Senso is proposed as a comprehensive solution to address the major factors contributing to sensitive scalp development.
