Unilever announced that it has appointed Neal Matheson to the newly created role of chief technology officer. Matheson, previously the chief technology officer for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, will report directly to Patrick Cescau, group chief executive.
In this role, Matheson will advise the Unilever board and executive staff on science and technology matters, lead the cross-Unilever science platforms and will champion the development of functional excellence in R&D. In addition he will take direct responsibility for Unilever's Safety & Environmental Assurance Centre.

I am confident that Neal will help drive and enhance the long-term growth of Unilever through scientific innovation."
Matheson graduated in 1969 from Queen's University (Ontario, Canada) with a degree in applied science/chemical engineering. He joined Johnson & Johnson in 1994 after a 25-year career with P&G.
