Cosmetic chemistry is a closely defined scientific discipline that uses advances in diverse fields and combines them to enhance the physical appearance, well-being and health of humans. The contributing disciplines can be found in a host of physical, biological, medical and social sciences. The practitioners of cosmetic science need to combine knowledge from many disciplines to create the products known as cosmetics
The never-ending changes in scientific discoveries are the life blood of the cosmetic industry, but most practitioners do not have access to the pertinent publications. The periodical reviews prepared by me are limited to major journals and are reported in an effort to help my colleagues to cope with current and continuously widening related scientific studies. Based on my experience, the important sources to be reviewed are the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the Journal of British Dermatology, and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. About three such reviews of these journals during a calendar year are projected.
