Perfluoropolyether Phosphate and Skin Renewal: The Therapeutic Index

In the search for a more effective and safer exfoliating agent, researchers conducted studies focused on the skin renewal activity and irritation potential of perfluoropolyether phosphate (PFPE phosphate). The research and data collected then were used to calculate a therapeutic index comparing the benefits of the ingredient with skin irritation.

This article is a follow-up to an article published in 2005 on the use of PFPE phosphate as an acidic agent to lower the pH without increasing skin irritation. In the previous article, the material was compared with lactic acid. In addition, the ingredient was evaluated and found to lower the irritation of glycolic acid. Other studies, previously published, investigated the efficacy of PFPE phosphate as primary emulsifier, oil repellent and antimicrobial agent.
