Cognis Ltd. and Thai Oleochemicals Company Ltd. have entered a 50/50 joint venture to produce and market fatty alcohols. The two will merge under the name Thai Fatty Alcohols Company Ltd. and will produce refined fatty alcohols in a facility being built in Rayong, Thailand, where both companies jointly operate Thai Ethoxylate Company Ltd.
Fatty alcohols from palm and palm kernel oils, as reported by Cognis, are used in the manufacture of products for the personal and home care industries. The joint venture between Cognis and Thai Oleochemicals will be directed at those in the personal and home care industry markets. Cognis reports that the venture will make use of their production technology in addition to ensuring the company's long-term ability to meet the growing demand of fatty alcohols at a competitive cost.
