The US National Toxicology Program (NTP), Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods (NICEATM) has requested comments, nominations of scientific experts and submission of data on the murine local lymph node assay (LLNA) to evaluate the validation status as a stand-alone assay on the determining potency for the purpose of hazard classification. This request was published in the US Federal Register/Notices on May 17, 2007.
LLNA is a method of assessing the potential of a test substance to induce allergic contact dermatitis, according to NICEATM and the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM). The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) first requested that NICEATM and ICCVAM assess the validation status of the LLNA as a stand-along assay for potency determination for classification purposed in January 2007. CSPC also requested the validation status of modified LLNA protocols, the LLNA limit test, the use of LLNA to test mixtures, aqueous solutions and metals and the applicability domain for LLNA.
Deadlines for submitting comments/nominations/data is June 15, 2007. For more information, visit https://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/whatwestudy/niceatm.
