A naturals alliance recently was formed in Brussels with support from cosmetic and scientific communities, including: the European Federation of Essential Oils (EFEO), Bundesverband Deutscher Industrie und Handelsunternehmen (BDIH), and the European Organization of Cosmetic Ingredients Industries and Services (UNITIS).
The Natural Alliance reportedly was inspired by the first common position taken in 2006 by the supply chain of complex botanical substances in preparation for the new REACH regulation. A structured forum as well as a strategic working platform will be implemented for all companies involved in the supply of natural complex substances to exchange, cooperate and to unify positions in technical and regulatory fields to present common proposals at the European level.
The new alliance aims to focus on the fact that natural complex substances have specific qualities needing special consideration by authorities. On the basis of this starting point, the Natural Alliance plans to coordinate interrelated work so that the evolution of regulations can be adapted to scientific and industrial realities, in addition to contributing to consumer and worker safety.
According to a press announcement by UNITIS, natural complex substances are covered by provisions of the REACH Regulation, which originally was conceived for chemicals. Within such a context, partners of the alliance plan to dedicate their first work and actions to the preparation of common guidelines.
