Marine Antiaging Ingredient Protects Against Oxidation

Laboratoires Sérobiologiques, a division of Cognis France, has introduced a complex of plant and marine origin designed to protect skin against aging. Aglycal LS 8777 (INCI: Mannitol (and) cyclodextrin (and) glycogen (and) Arctostaphylos uva ursi leaf extract) is said to protect skin against the two major mechanisms of aging: the sugar mediated glycation process and oxidative stress.

According to the company, glycation and free radical-induced oxidation lead to a modification and rigidification of the skin’s structural macromolecules, resulting in loss of elasticity and wrinkles. Glycation also reportedly induces skin dullness and uneven skin tone, a sign of aging now considered an important target for antiaging products.

The product is said to improve skin texture and tone. It is recommended as the main ingredient in antiaging, anti-wrinkle, firming and radiance treatment products and as a complementary ingredient in sun care, antipollution/protective skin care and anticellulite care. By preventing glycation and free radical-induced damage, the company’s active provides protection of dermal structural macromolecules, preservation of the tissue-supporting functions and protection against loss of skin radiance with aging.
