Matmarine is able to keep oily skin under control by reducing sebum accumulation and imperfections of skin, such as pores and shininess. The ingredient decreases the protein levels of MC5-R, the receptor involved in sebocyte differentiation. In addition, it improves firmness through inducing type I collagen synthesis.

When tested on Caucasian men, the ingredient was shown to reduce the appearance of pores and improve hydration. In the latest round of in vivo testing, 31 Caucasian men applied a cream with 3% Matmarine on half of the face and a placebo cream on the other half twice a day for seven days. In one week, the appearance of the number of pores decreased by 10.5% and skin hydration increased by 12.4%. The ingredient resulted in an immediate moisturizing effect that lasted the entire day.
