The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has begun analyzing member products for violations of its Code of Practice. According to the association, 50 randomly chosen fragrances, cosmetic and toiletry and household products will be sampled.
Violations of the association's guidelines will be brought to the attention of the particular fragrance supplier. New suppliers will have one month to comply, whereas established fragrance compounds will have 13 months to comply. If the company does not agree to remedy its violation, IFRA will note the violation and publish the company on its website. Companies who violate IFRA's code will not be revealed until May 2007.
The testing will be done by a contract laboratory, who will be looking for banned ingredients or illegal concentrations of ingredients. The association plans to continue to sample 50 products per year.
