Henna and hair dye may be in trouble, as the European Commission Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) has released their views on the two.
The SCCP published a report on hair dye ingredient quinolinium labeling it as unsafe until more data was provided. The committee also ruled that additional mutagenicity data on henna, a hair dye ingredient, was needed in order to assess its safety.
A technical report on oxidative hair dye chemistry and human exposure by Colipa was also reviewed. The SCCP objected to the study, mentioning that more ingredient combinations should be included.
