iSoy Technologies is developing bio-lipid actives for the personal care industry. The company has created ferulic soy glycerides (FSG), an active ingredient derived from soy oil and ferulic acid. The company claims that the ingredient is a natural antioxidant that filters out UVA and UVB sunlight.
To manufacture the ingredient, the company strips the fatty acid in the soy oil and replaces the fatty acid with ferulic acid. This technology was developed from research by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), who has licensed the technology to iSoy, expanded it and filed additional patents.
According to iSoy Technologies, it has already incorporated ferulic acid into olive oil and will soon put it into other different oils. The company also plans to experiment with different active ingredients targeted for antiaging products.
iSoy has created a line of soap products containing FSG. A few companies are reportedly creating products containing iSoy’s material that should hit the market shortly. Two or three more FSG-related products are planned for release within the next 12 months, and the company expects to produce 25 to 30 new products over the next five years.
