The Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) met with five officials from the Chinese Administration of Quality, Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) on June 10, 2007, to discuss regulatory issues. AQSIQ supervises imports and exports of cosmetic products and develops standards on labeling and other matters.
Pamela G. Bailey, CTFA president and CEO, headed the meeting. Also in attendance CIR director, Alan Andersen, PhD, and Linda Katz, PhD, director of the office of cosmetics and color for the US Food and Drug Administration. Following the meeting, the AQSIQ officials were taken on tours of member companies including Procter & Gamble, Colgate Palmolive and Estee Lauder. The AQSIQ was led by Xu Liyan, deputy director of the Import and Export Food Safety Bureau.
The visit of AQSIQ is part of an effort by the CTFA to increase engagement with Chinese officials and industry groups. The CTFA reportedly is planning on visiting China in late September. Senior representatives from several CTFA member companies serving on the International Executive Steering Committee will participate in the visit. For more information, visit www.ctfa.org.
