Ciba Specialty Chemicals and Virchow Group, an Indian pharmaceutical company based in Hyderabad, will collaborate to produce United States Pharmacopoeia(USP)-grade equivalent triclosan in India. The triclosan manufacturing of Virchow Drugs Private Ltd. in Hyderabad, India will be upgraded using technology from Ciba Specialty Chemicals. This update will allow the facility to make triclosan with purity equivalent to USP specifications.
According to Ciba, its agreement to the joint venture will enable it to expand its share of the growing cosmetic markets in Asia and further improve its position in the region. Ciba currently manufactures the antimicrobial ingredient Triclosan, which is used in products such as toothpaste, soap, deodorants and non-cosmetic articles such as shower curtains and technical textiles.
