Beauty Accelerate, the premier cosmetic industry event connecting brand marketing and R&D innovation, is delighted to announce it has partnered with The Ocean Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the trend of ocean environment destruction around the world.
Through this partnership, a portion of the proceeds from Beauty Accelerate registrations will be contributed to The Ocean Foundation—exclusively toward its Redesigning Plastics Initiative.
As readers of Global Cosmetic Industry and Cosmetics & Toiletries, the media brands hosting Beauty Accelerate, are aware, there is much more work to be done to establish a more circular and sustainable future that respects the blue economy.
Through the Redesigning Plastics Initiative, The Ocean Foundation seeks to move plastics toward “safe, simple and standardized” solutions. “The Ocean Foundation is working to shift the conversation from why plastic has become so problematic as harmful pollution, to how plastic is being made and what it brings to society,” said Mark J. Spalding, president, The Ocean Foundation. “Our Redesigning Plastics Initiative is working to develop and synthesize original science to inform legislative approaches to change the way plastics are made.”

“Cosmetic product developers take great inspiration from the marine environment,” said Rachel Grabenhofer, managing scientific editor, Cosmetics & Toiletries. “They recognize it is critical to protect this precious resource and to seek ways to reduce the industry’s impact on it; from eco-friendlier chemistries and manufacturing, to low-water formulating and sustainable packaging. The Ocean Foundation’s Redesigning Plastics Initiative mirrors and amplifies the pursuits of our industry, and we are proud to join in this critical movement.”
“The beauty and personal care industry have made immense headway in sustainability in the last few years," says Jeb Gleason-Allured, content director, Global Cosmetic Industry. "The Ocean Foundation's work, in particular its Redesigning Plastic Initiative, aligns with the revolution underway in this innovative industry. We couldn’t be happier to support their efforts.”
As the only community foundation for the ocean, The Ocean Foundation’s 501(c)(3) mission is to support, strengthen, and promote those organizations dedicated to reversing the trend of destruction of ocean environments around the world. It focuses its collective expertise on emerging threats in order to generate cutting edge solutions and better strategies for implementation. The Ocean Foundation executes core programmatic initiatives to combat ocean acidification, advance blue resilience and address global marine plastic pollution. It also fiscally hosts more than 50 projects across 25 countries.
